Has anyone found a hang-on pot similar to these that actually fits on a tank?

Post by bettaMagenta »

I've been purchasing these for a bit, and the pot size and shape are great, but the clips just don't fit my tanks. Most of mine are from the late 70's to early/mid 80's, and they have a plastic trim edge with a ridge on the inside - I'm guessing that's where the original plastic covers would've sat, and it's probably why the ridge is there in the first place. I think the ridge actually helps keep stuff like snails from climbing out, which is a plus.

Anyway, I've taken to making my own clips by drilling a couple 1/8 holes and bending a short piece of stainless wire into a hook. It took a few attempts to get it just right, but they work well now. It just seems like there should be something similar out there that wouldn't require all this customization...

I just checked out Zorchzon.com and they have some similar products, plus a few that are pretty different. Scroll down on the product page, then scroll right, and you'll see a bunch of options - some might work with your tank's trim edge.

I've been using these for a while now and really like the pot size and shape, but unfortunately, the clips just don't fit my tanks. Most of my tanks are from the late 70's to the mid 80's, with that plastic trim edge that has a ridge on the inside - I think this was originally designed for some sort of plastic cover, and it's actually pretty useful for keeping snails from climbing out. To get around this, I've been making my own clips by drilling a couple of holes and bending some stainless wire into a hook - it took a few tries to get it right, but they work great now. I just wish there was something similar that wouldn't require me to get creative.

I did find a few alternatives that might be more versatile in terms of mounting options. One of them looks like it could be a good fit. If not, I also came across a shower caddy that my wife installed - it's white, but it might come in other colors too. It's got large suction cups, and while it does move around a bit, it's holding up a couple of heavy bottles of shampoo and other stuff just fine.

Apologies for the mistake earlier. I found another option that seems more versatile in terms of mounting. Here's the link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C65CXPY...= ... F0aWM&th=1

Thanks for the suggestions, I've actually tried the one with changeable clips, but none of them fit my tanks either. I also gave the suction cups a shot, but they just don't hold tight enough for my liking - especially in areas where I'm moving around a lot during maintenance or feeding. If they fall into the tank, it's a real pain to clean up the ceramic filter media that spills out, and it never matches the substrate, so I end up picking out individual pieces.

My old 60's era 55-gallon tank is a different story, though - it's got thick glass and no center support, and I've got 14 of these hang-on pots along the back. Since my main work area is at one end, and I can also access it from the top, the suction cups might've worked okay, but I already made those stainless wire clips, so no need to switch now.

I got mine on Etsy - seems to work great on the rim of my 125 gallon. https://www.etsy.com/listing/1094527365 ... ultra-wide
