Fin rot versus acriflavine treatment options

Hi everyone, I'm really worried about my betta. I got him back from a friend about two weeks ago after being away for work for three months, and he's not doing well. I'm pretty sure it's fin rot or fungus - here's a picture of him before I started treatment.





I started using acriflavine last week, 5-10 drops per gallon, and I've been changing the water every two days. But honestly, I don't think it's working - if anything, he seems to be getting worse after over a week of treatment.




He's still eating, but he's become really timid now. I'm not sure what to do - should I keep using the acriflavine or try something else?

What's the status on your water quality - ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels? Fin rot's often a sign of poor water conditions. That bowl's way too small for him, and with the waste he produces, you'd need daily 100% water changes to keep it healthy, which is super stressful for the fish. Plus, he needs space to swim.

Is his bowl heated and filtered? Both are essential for bettas. I'd recommend a full water change and moving him to a bigger tank as soon as possible.

Thanks for the advice. I don't have the tools to test the water quality yet, but I'll get them soon. We're in a tropical country, so the temperature is usually around 25+ Celsius, so I didn't think I needed a heater.

I actually moved him to a smaller tank because I thought it would be easier to treat him, but now I'm thinking maybe that wasn't the best idea. Do you think I should still try a different treatment, or just focus on getting a bigger tank and improving the water quality?

Daily water changes of 75% for two weeks should help with fin rot, I'd also recommend adding aquarium salt to the new water.
