Quick snap of the pair - female nipped at the male right after this.

Looks like a female to me, definitely not like my male.

You've got 2 females, I'm afraid - all that bullying is a dead giveaway. A male's pelvic fins should be light to dark blue, never a hint of purple or red. That's just not how it goes.

I'm starting to think you're right about having two females. The bigger one's still on the warpath, nipping at the other's fins and causing a right old mess. Would introducing a definite male calm things down or am I better off swapping it for a male at the shop?

Apologies for my earlier sexing mishap. Upon reviewing the second picture, I'm inclined to agree that it appears to be a female, complete with a prominent belly. I had always been under the impression that females often exhibited the distinctive "eye" on their dorsal fin, but I suppose this isn't a hard and fast rule.

As for introducing a male to the mix, I envision a scenario where he'd choose a partner, and the two would subsequently bully the other female. However, this could potentially be a viable strategy for securing a pair, allowing the male to select his preferred mate from the two females. You could then remove the other female, but I'm hardly an expert, so I'll refrain from offering any further advice.
