Is this fish species suitable for my aquarium?

Post by finley9 »

Hello,

I've been considering the following fish for my tank:

1. Kole tang or yellow tang - which one's easier to care for?

2. Percula clownfish (a pair)

3. Lawnmower blenny

4. Six line wrasse

Are they compatible? I'm particularly interested in knowing which tang is more low-maintenance.

Kind regards,

They should be fine together. The yellow tang is generally considered easier to care for. However, if you're planning on getting a tang, you'll need a large tank - at least 75 gallons. What's the size of your tank, by the way? Also, I'd recommend adding the six-line wrasse last, as they can be quite aggressive.

I'd actually recommend the kole tang over the yellow. From my experience, kole tangs stay smaller, which is a plus, and yellow tangs tend to have aggression problems.

I still think yellows are a better choice, but I see your point. They can be aggressive, I agree. However, kole tangs can be a real pain to get eating and they love to knock over decorations if they're not superglued down. Plus, let's be honest, yellows are just nicer to look at. That being said, I still think a 75 gallon tank or more is a must for either tang.

Thanks guys, really appreciate the advice. I'll definitely add the six line wrasse last as you suggested. I've decided to go with the kole tang, mainly because of its smaller size. I'm looking forward to picking up my lawnmower blenny and kole tang in a few days when I get back from Gran Canaria.
