My prized lps pieces

Post by torto »

So I'm curious, what are your most valuable LPS pieces. I'm talking super rare or really tough to get your hands on.

My most recent addition to the collection – that's what I'd consider my prized LPS piece.

I'm curious, what LPS corals do you guys think are hard to come by or rare?

For me, it's all about the large colonies - they're what I consider truly prized. I mean, having a pricey frag like a chalice that's only the size of a quarter break isn't the end of the world. You just shrug it off and think, 'cool, now I've got two.' But take a plain green trumpet coral with 100 heads - if one breaks off and ruins that perfect shape, that's a different story. That's what I'd be worried about.

Give me a thriving, large colony any day over a bunch of small, scattered frags.

I've got a soft spot for my red/orange indophyllia, it's definitely up there. Acanthophyllias are another favorite of mine. And I've also got to mention my red goniopora - it's a real standout in my collection.

I used to have a beautiful pink Heliofungia, it was a real showstopper. Exotic frags aren't as rare as they used to be, these days they're pretty common.

My non-brown/tan hammers are the ones I really value. They're not huge, each one's smaller than my palm, but put them all together and you're looking at a collection worth over $300.

My prized piece is a bubble coral that I've been nurturing from just one polyp frag.

Mine's an elegance collection, had the Indo for ages, fragged it multiple times and the Aussie for 2 years now.

Mine is my bubble coral - it's really special to me since I grew it from just a single polyp frag.
