finding pretty bettas at petco
Re: finding pretty bettas at petco
I've been on the hunt for cube aquariums, but I stumbled upon something interesting - bettas actually thrive in tanks with more surface area and a rectangular shape. I'm really drawn to the idea of having a tank with a betta, some corys, and a few shrimp - sounds like a lovely combo. Guess I've got some more reading to do.

A betta's dream tank would be a jungle with plenty of floating plants. The water parameters should be just right - pH 7, and both GH and KH below 8. Temperature-wise, 25°C is perfect. Dim lighting is a must, along with dark substrate. And of course, a healthy tank means zero ammonia, zero nitrite, and nitrate levels below 10.

Plants like Anubias or Microsorum can thrive in dim light conditions, even with as low as 20 lm/l. For instance, Bolbitis heudeloti, Ceratophyllum demersum/submersum, and various Cryptocoryne species can also do well. Additionally, Najas guadalupensis is another option.
If you're planning to keep Corydoras, remember they prefer soft sand and a dedicated beach area, ideally half the size of the tank's floor area and preferably running lengthwise. If your tank is under 100 cm long, you may want to consider the smaller species like habrosus. Also, keep in mind that Corydoras are schooling fish, so it's best to keep at least 10 individuals.
