Can levisamole treatment fully eliminate camallanus worms from guppies?

Post by Giggletons »

I just treated with Expel-P for camallanus worms on my guppy. Now I'm wondering, is it normal for a worm to still be inside the guppy after 2 days of treatment?

Could be dead but still inside, just hasn't been passed yet.

Imagine the look on his face if that worm's still inside the guppy when the relatives come over for the holidays. I recall a similar discussion where it was suggested that severe infestations could lead to prolonged gut damage, causing delays in the worm's expulsion.

It's not typical for a worm to still be inside the guppy after 2 days of treatment with Expel-P. However, if you can see the worm hanging out of the fish's vent and it's been there for 48 hours, it's likely dead or paralyzed.

To support your guppy's recovery, ensure you provide a nutritious diet for at least a month following the treatment, as the parasite infestation would have caused blood loss.

For the treatment itself, I recommend conducting follow-up treatments every week for 3-4 weeks to ensure all parasites are eliminated. Also, make sure there's no carbon in the filter, as it can neutralize the medication. Lastly, be sure to treat the correct amount of water in the tank to achieve the desired effect.

Imagine his embarrassment if It's still there when the relatives come over for Christmas?

I've heard of this before, and the consensus was that it was a result of a very bad infestation taking very long to move through a damaged gut. But that was opinions, and nothing proven.

Yes, the worm doesn't seem to be red or even moving like before. I'll continue feeding good stuff and repeat after a week. Does lettuce have any benefits to a fish's digestive system as a fiber source? Would it help her pass the big worm?

Honestly, I think most foods should help, but I'm not sure about lettuce specifically. I've heard it's not too bad for them, though.

I'd blanch romaine for them, just as a general thing, not specifically for parasites.
