Brown jelly disease in corals
Brown jelly disease in corals
I just got home and my torch heads are pretty much gone - they're all shrunk up and covered in this weird brown slime, so I'm guessing it's some kind of disease. Here's a picture, can someone take a look and let me know if it's salvageable? If there's a way to save it, what's the best course of action?
Re: Brown jelly disease in corals
First thing I'd do is grab a hose and blast that brown slime off. It should come off pretty easily. Just be prepared for a strong smell.
Re: Brown jelly disease in corals
Suck out as much of that brown slime as you can, just be careful. And I'd definitely recommend looking into Lugol's iodine, might be worth a shot.
Re: Brown jelly disease in corals
I managed to get the slime off, but now it's coming back. Should I frag what's left and get rid of the infected part? I'm also worried - can this slime infect my other LPS corals?
Re: Brown jelly disease in corals
Yeah, you can go ahead and frag it. It's probably the best way to be safe. Keep an eye on it and suck up the slime as it comes back.
