I've had success breeding Stendker reds, with the offspring turning out just as vibrant as the parents. I attribute this to my beef heart mix, which seems to bring out the natural colors in the fish.

I'm raising awareness with this experiment. The treated fish will be raised alongside the untreated ones to see the long-term effects. Since they're runts, they won't be bred. I don't plan to sell them; this is just a hobby. I bought a few packets of this powder in a Bangkok fish store ages ago; I doubt they're sold openly anymore.
I'm curious if anyone's bred the Red Eagle or Rafflesia discus and what their matured offspring look like. To me, they seem like juiced-up Checkerboard discus. Quite a price difference, and people are willing to pay the premium. Even within this "strain", more color means a higher grade/price. You can see why overseas exporters create these color variations. Whether it's true genetics or just chemical enhancement, only the originator knows.

Your example of testing the effects of 100% RO water on breeding pairs is a great illustration of how experiments can provide valuable insights.
