Betta fins are severely damaged

Post by florens »

I'm pretty sure those high nitrate levels shredded his fins, but thankfully the water's back to normal after those sevelflake water changes. I've added more plants to improve the tank overall.
I'm still not sure if it's fin rot or just stress, though.
I've given him treatment already.
How long does it take for fin rot to improve, and is there anything else I can do for him?
The water's a bit cloudy at the moment, but that's probably because I just unearthed some plants - I did a water change just now, so hopefully that'll clear up soon.
Really hate seeing him like this.

I've heard that long-finned fish can be prone to this, they sometimes even nip at their own fins, trying to get rid of the weight holding them back. Regular water changes with clean, fresh water is key, I've been doing that and it seems to be helping.

It sounds like fin rot to me too. I've been considering adding some medication to his treatment, like tetra all in one tablets - I've heard great things about them. Apparently, you can get them at pet stores like Petco or even Walmart, but I'll make sure to check the local pet stores first. I've read that they're really effective and have saved a lot of fish in the past. I'm hoping to see some improvement by day 3, but I'll make sure to follow the instructions carefully and keep a close eye on him.
