Changing water with aquatic plants

Post by Dreamak »

I'm in the process of revamping my tank, currently just housing a few plants, and I'm about to switch my water source which means new parameters. I'm curious, do plants get stressed by parameter changes like fish do? Should I do a gradual change or can I swap out most of the water at once without harming them?

Also, how much does chlorine affect plants? Do I need to treat my tap water before adding it to the tank?

My plant selection is pretty basic at the moment - just some java ferns and a struggling crypt, though I plan on adding more low-maintenance ones soon.

Thanks.

Decent lighting and a good dose of NPK is what I give my plants, and they seem to do just fine. Weekly water changes of a decent size don't hurt either.

Is your tap water chlorinated or does it contain chloramine?

To be honest, I don't think you'll need a dechlorinator just for plants - I mean, think about it, we use chlorinated water on our houseplants all the time and they're fine.

Chlorine will eventually evaporate out, so I shouldn't have to worry about it.
