carpeting options and installation

Post by flavon »

I'm looking to carpet my tank floor but I don't want to use Java moss as I've already got that on the stones and decorations. I'm after something easy to care for that doesn't require CO2, preferably something that resembles grass. Not sure what to go for or where to get it though, any UK-based advice would be great.

pygmy chain sword is a good shout, it's pretty easy to care for and doesn't need c02, plus it looks a bit like grass, it's a type of plant that's pretty common in the uk so you should be able to find it in most aquarium shops.

If you're after a grass-like carpet, I'd say consider Sagittaria Subulata, Helanthium Tenellum, Littorella Uniflora or Lilaeopsis Brasiliensis - these are your best bets. Mixing a few types can create a more natural look, in my opinion. For carpeting plants, I'd go with In-Vitro pots, they're already in their submerged state, and you usually get more individual plants. Java Plants is a good source for these, I ordered from them recently and was impressed.

Considering the tank's relatively small footprint of 30 x 30 cm, I'd say carpeting plants can be a bit of a handful to keep in check.
