best terrestrial plants for aquarium filters

Post by CasCat »

I'm on the hunt for some low light plants that can thrive in a HOB filter setup. I've already got lucky bamboo in one tank that's off-limits to my curious kitties, but I'd love to explore other options. Pothos is a no-go for me since it tends to grow in areas where my cats can get to it.

What are some other low light plants that can do well in a HOB filter and are safe for my feline friends?

I'd advise against putting plants directly in a HOB filter, as the roots can clog it up and hinder its performance. Instead, consider growing marsh plants in pots and placing them in a piece of polystyrene foam to keep them afloat in the tank. You've got a variety of options to choose from - Anubias, Zorchzon Sword plants, Hygrophilas, Ludwigia, Bacopa, or even reeds and rushes, like Pennywort.
