choosing the right lighting for a refugium

Post by finleyz »

I've been asking a lot of questions lately, still trying to learn the ropes. For my refugium, I'm planning to add some LR and algae plants like cheato. What kind of lighting do I need for this setup - actinic, 10000K, or 6700K? Also, what's the recommended wattage per gallon? And one more thing, what's a good refugium size for a 55-gallon display tank?

I've heard metal halides are the way to go for refugium lighting, but to be honest, I've never been too great with figuring out the specifics on wattage and all that. From what I understand, they're great for giving plants a boost of light, which in turn helps with oxygen production through photosynthesis, especially at night when your main tank lights are off.

Considering setting up a 10 gallon refugium, thinking MH light might be overkill.

I run an ecolight on my sump, works a charm for chaeto growth, been happy with the results.

My sump is roughly 130 litres. The ecolight I'm using is 125W. It's actually not a T5, if you want to check the specs for yourself, you can find them here: http/www.aquaculture-hydroponics.co.uk/p...bCategoryID=372.

I've found the Arcadia ArcPods to be spot on for the job, really happy with 'em.
