Can plants thrive in fine sand?
Re: Can plants thrive in fine sand?
For a cost-effective and functional option, consider using play sand from a hardware store, the kind meant for kids' playgrounds. It's budget-friendly and does the job.
Re: Can plants thrive in fine sand?
I'm confused, what exactly is the excess you're referring to - the sand itself, or something else entirely?
Re: Can plants thrive in fine sand?
Play sand's not an option for me. 50 pounds is the smallest quantity, and that's just too much for me to handle. I don't have the space to store it, and carrying it would be a nightmare.coltin wrote: ↑Sat Oct 12, 2024 4:30 am Plants thrive in sand in their natural habitats, so it's only logical they can do the same in aquariums.
Aponogetons are heavy feeders, requiring a rich source of nutrients to flourish. Providing them with a couple of root tabs, supplemented with liquid fertiliser in the water, should meet their needs.

I've had no problems with plants in sand myself. For the leftover sand, just spread it on your lawn or garden, no storage needed.
