Hi everyone,
I'm thinking of getting a 6ft x 2ft x 2ft Prostar rimless tank for my next project. It's mainly for reef, but can also work for freshwater. The tank comes with a ready sump, which I think is a great feature. Total volume is around 240 gallons.
I've never dealt with Prostar before, but I really like the tank's specs.
Has anyone had any experience with Prostar rimless tanks? Good or bad, I'd love to hear about it.
Also, if you know of any good 6ft rimless tanks with peninsula overflow and sump, I'd really appreciate your recommendations.
Thanks in advance,
Joy

I've been doing some research and found out there have been three releases of this aquarium, which suggests a lot of issues were present initially. Maybe they've ironed out the problems, but it's hard to say for sure.
One thing that does catch my attention is the price - it's significantly lower than the traditional systems we commonly use for saltwater. This always makes me a bit apprehensive, to be honest.
Personally, I'd be willing to pay a bit more for a tank from a reputable brand like Waterbox or Glasscages. I actually considered them when I upgraded last year, but they weren't available at the time. I ended up going with an acrylic tank because I needed a higher height dimension.
To me, Prostar tanks just haven't proven themselves yet.

Thanks for the info. I've considered Waterbox before, but never actually tried them out. What's your experience with them? Are they reliable?

I'm new to rimless tanks, but I've heard discus can be notorious jumpers.

I've had a good experience with Waterbox, they're quite reliable and well-regarded in the community.

I reached out to Waterbox yesterday and they seem great, but I'm having a tough time getting one in San Jose. The nearest distributor is in Sacramento, and they don't deliver to my area. I spoke with their head office, and they said they can ship it to my doorstep, but I'd need to arrange for pickup. I'm thinking of asking my LFS if they can help with the logistics. Has anyone else encountered this issue and found a solution? I really appreciate all your help - it's great to have such a supportive community to turn to.

I've worked with various businesses that have large aquariums, and I can suggest some options for delivery. Companies like NorCal in the Bay Area can handle that for you. I've seen it firsthand.
Most local fish stores don't usually offer delivery services due to liability concerns, but they might be able to recommend someone who can help.

If they offer it, you can ask for white glove service.

A 6x2x2 tank is actually 180 gallons, not 240. The sump would make up the remaining 60 gallons for the total volume.

I'd be cautious with glasscages, haven't checked them out in a while, but Waterbox seems impressive. Had a call with them, great customer service - thorough, friendly, and helpful.
Also, I was concerned about discus jumping with rimless tanks, but I think it's extremely rare in a large tank like the one you're considering.
