Hi everyone,
I'm keen to hear from other Stendker owners about their discus feeding habits. I've just received my first group of 6.5cm discus and Stendker suggests feeding them three times a day with their own food. I plan to follow this, but they do mention that you can supplement in between.
I'm considering adding either pellets or a mix of flake to their diet. Using flake would be beneficial as my other aquarium fish can also eat it, making it an easy transition to the display tank.
What are your thoughts on pellets vs. flake, and do you have any recommendations?

I feed my Stendker discus whatever they'll take - flakes, frozen foods, color bits, and crisps. Mine aren't fussy, they'll eat most anything I add. I also give them a treat once or twice a week - usually frozen bloodworms or brine shrimp.

Thanks for the insight, that's helpful to know. I'll probably go with a mix of pellets in an auto feeder, seems like the way to go for me. Pellets work better in the feeder, rather than flake.

I've been feeding my Stendker discus since they were 6.5cm, now they're 15cm. Sticking to 3 meals a day, just beef heart mix. I did ask Stendker about feeding more frequently, but they advised against it for fish that size, so I've been following their advice. They're doing really well. They're growing great. You can check their progress: http://forum.simplydiscus.com/showth...ly-ready/page4
Thanks, I've taken a look at the same info. It also mentions treats in between meals. I'll definitely follow Stendker's guidance, but I'm thinking if I do decide to treat them, it could be something I feed the rest of the tank as a staple, so when they're in the display tank, they'll take all food easily.

I was looking at Stendker's feeding recommendations and came across their dosage guide and thawing instructions, but the links seem to be down - Seite wurde nicht gefunden. - Diskuszucht Stendker GmbH & Co. KG.
The link is https://www.diskuszucht-stendker.de/plu ... ung_en.pdf.
Also, I was interested in their Mythos-Rinderherz info, but again, the link isn't working - Seite wurde nicht gefunden. - Diskuszucht Stendker GmbH & Co. KG.
The link for that is https://www.diskuszucht-stendker.de/plu ... erz_en.pdf.
It would be great if someone could share the info or point me in the right direction.

I've fed my discus 3-4 times a day when they were young, around 2-4 months old. I mixed it up with my own beef heart blend, Bio-Gold, pellets, dehydrated bloodworms, and flakes. I figured varying their diet would ensure they got all the nutrients they needed.
One thing to keep in mind, though - frequent feeding means lots of thorough cleaning and water changes. They always seem hungry, but a lot of food ends up hiding where you can't see it. Unless you've got a bare-bottom tank, that is.
Now my juveniles are 10-13cm, and I've cut back to twice a day. In the morning, I give them about a 3/4" square of beef heart, and a bit less in the evening with a mix of other foods. Still finding plenty of uneaten food, though.

I feed my Stendker discus a variety of foods including flakes, fdbw, sera color bits, and tetra color crisps. They seem to eat just about anything I give them. As a treat, I also give them frozen blood worms and brine shrimp once or twice a week.
