Here's my new frogspawn:
Added it two days ago. First day was under PC's in my BC29, all good. Yesterday I threw in some LED's, running them at about 20% blue and 20% white. Normal for a newly introduced FS to act like this? I had one before, same thing happened, never came out and eventually kicked the bucket. Same thing under the PCs too. Got it from a guy's tank, looked super healthy when I picked it up. Now it's chillin' in the sand near a rock, blocking some of the main flow, so it's not getting blasted.

Re: Help with frogspawn coral care
I'm acclimating him pretty slowly, just letting him settle in on his own. I do have some Revive on hand, but I didn't use it for the initial acclimation - just floated the bag and then added some tank water to it before releasing him.
Re: Help with frogspawn coral care
I acclimate using the bag method, no drip for me. I've heard it can mess with pH levels. Don't have any dips like Coral RX or Revive on hand, but I could pick some up if needed. My other corals have done just fine with this method, it just seems to be frogspawn that's giving me trouble.
Re: Help with frogspawn coral care
I've got Coral RX on the way now, gonna dip on Friday. Any other suggestions for me? What's the deal with frogspawn, anything special I should know about them, they seem pretty finicky.
Re: Help with frogspawn coral care
One thing to consider with frogspawns is they tend to get jostled around in the bag during transport, which can cause damage to the flesh and lead to recession. Keeping it out of direct flow might help it recover, so the spot you've got it in sounds like a good choice.
Re: Help with frogspawn coral care
What are your Alk, Calcium, and Mg levels - just wondering if that might be affecting the frogspawn.
Re: Help with frogspawn coral care
I've had my share of frogspawns and I gotta say, acclimation is key. Your water params are likely different from the LFS, especially salinity - usually it's lower there. So, just doing a temp acclimation isn't enough, you risk shocking them and that's a death sentence.Orizon1 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2024 10:36 am Here's my new frogspawn:

I'd give coral RX a shot, but it's not looking great. If you try another frogspawn, definitely drip acclimate it first, you'll see a difference. Also, grab some water from your tank and take it to the LFS, have them test it for you - it's worth the buck or two for a second opinion from someone who's done it before.
Re: Help with frogspawn coral care
Thanks for all the help. I'm gonna try dipping and hope it does the trick. If not, I might put frogspawn on the backburner for now and focus on some other stuff, then try again later.
Re: Help with frogspawn coral care
My experience with frogs is they can retreat like that when stressed, and they tend to prefer less light, especially if it's new. I've found they don't like as much as hammers do. Once you've dipped this fellow, get him securely positioned so he can't get knocked over, then give him some time to rest. I've got a rescue frog that was stressed, and he looked worse than this when I first got him. But with good water quality and some nutrient-rich water from feeding my fish, he's slowly coming around. He wouldn't come out at all for the first few days, then just barely during twilight, and now he's starting to emerge in daylight too. It's just a slow process, so be patient.

Thanks for the help, but no luck. Lost the frogspawn. 0 for 2 now. Still no idea what's going on, but I'll keep trying.
