Elegance coral owners share your experiences

Post by sakurana »

Just got my hands on a beautiful Aussie cultured elegance coral from Pacific East - top-notch service from them, by the way. Highly recommend.

It's attached to a frag plug, super convenient for placement. I initially put it on the sand in a corner and it's already opening up nicely.

So here's my question - I offered it some mysis shrimp and it seemed interested in eating, but then the Nassarius snails showed up out of nowhere! They swarmed from the sand and started climbing up the plug. Not ideal, to say the least. I managed to distract them with some pellets, but it wasn't the most elegant solution.

These corals seem to eat at a glacial pace, just like the others. How do you guys keep the snails at bay while feeding? Any tips would be appreciated.

I've got a pretty simple solution for you - grab a plastic container, like a Tupperware or something, and poke some holes in it. Then, when you're feeding the coral, just drop it down over it. That way, the snails can't get in and bother it while it's eating.

That elegance coral of yours looks like a cut frag, the side's flat with hard corners, like it's been fragged. It's looking healthy and happy though, nice extension. Pacific East is a great vendor, no complaints there.

Don't worry too much about those snails, they're probably just trying to get in on the food action. If they get too close to the coral, its nematocysts should keep them at bay - they'll either back off or become a snack.

Glad to hear PEA's worked out for you both, I've been on the fence about ordering from them due to mixed reviews. That elegance coral looks great, looking forward to seeing how it progresses - would love more updates and photos.

Yeah, it's definitely a cut frag, you can tell by the straight sides. I think it looks great, but then again, this is my first one. That picture was taken after just a few hours in the tank.
