Bubble coral care and maintenance
Re: Bubble coral care and maintenance
It seems like when the Aqua blues are on, that's how my bubble coral looks. But when I switch to the bright lights, it resembles the original picture I had of it. I'm wondering if I should just let it keep adapting to its current spot or if I should move it to a shadier area.
Re: Bubble coral care and maintenance
I'd give it some shade, seems like it's struggling with the bright lights.

"Hard to say for sure, but it looks like there might be some cyano growing around the fleshy part - if that's the case, it's gonna need to be taken care of."
Re: Bubble coral care and maintenance
I position mine in a spot with some shade, indirect light and low flow, once they're settled in they're super hardy and honestly, often underappreciated.
Re: Bubble coral care and maintenance
Appears to be making some progress. Went back to my LFS and inquired about the issue, thinking maybe my bright lights were the culprit. Created a shaded area for it and seems to be doing notably better.
Re: Bubble coral care and maintenance
It's making a comeback. I'd siphon that cyano off the skeleton when you see it. Keep us posted on progress.
Re: Bubble coral care and maintenance
For what it's worth, I've had good luck with my bubble coral when I drop a few NLS pellets in its grasp - it seems to really scarf them down.
Re: Bubble coral care and maintenance
I picked up some NLS food on Black Friday and gave it a try - my bubble coral really took to it. I've been making some adjustments to the tank, rearranged the rockwork this week to create better shade and block some of the flow. It's been looking better and better over the last couple weeks.
Re: Bubble coral care and maintenance
I've had success with my bubble coral using raw clam and frozen krill. It's grown quite large, reaching a diameter of around 14 inches when fully open.
Re: Bubble coral care and maintenance
I've had a bubble coral for a long time, 14 years to be exact. The one you've got doesn't look so great, but if it can recover, they're pretty hardy. One thing I've learned is they don't like being in the direct flow - keep it out of that area. High light isn't a problem for them, but if it came from a low-light tank, I'd suggest adjusting the lighting over the next few weeks to match your parameters.
