Quarantine Tetras etc as well as new Discus? Or Discus only?

Post by mossy »

Quarantine Tetras, etc. too, or just Discus?

I've got 7 beautiful new Discus in quarantine right now, and I'm really hoping I don't have to quarantine my Tetras and Corys as well - that would be a real pain.

Can someone please help me out with this? I'd really appreciate it, thanks so much!

I personally only quarantine the discus, no need for the others in my opinion.

Are there already discus in your main tank, or is this a brand new setup? I've had some major issues with tetras in the past. So, I always quarantine them before adding to my main tank. I've tried three different types of tetras and had problems with all of them. First, it was cardinals - I lost all 12. Then, I tried black phantoms and lost all but one out of 12. Lastly, I got rummynose tetras - they're really hard to find around here, and the ones I got looked pretty bad, but they survived except for one. That's why I now quarantine all my tetras, and actually, everything I buy from pet stores.

I've had my share of losses, so I quarantine all my new fish now.

Better catch those redline torpedo barbs and get them with my new discus in quarantine. Day 2 of metro and kusuri wormer, plus rock salt. Thanks for the input, everyone - appreciate it!

No signs of illness so far, no white poo. They're not scared of me at all, which is great. Had my fair share of discus over the years that just smash into things, some are so shy.

New tank's ready - 4x2x2, bare bottom, driftwood, and plants. Just waiting for the all-clear.

One thing, be careful with kusuri wormer - I've had discus go head-stand with it before, and I was told it was safe to double dose. Not true. Stick to the recommended dose, or just under. My two cents.
