Acan coral care and troubleshooting

Post by buzzyfox »

It's been like this for 48 hours now. No changes to the environment whatsoever.
Ca 440, ALK 9.2, Mag 1440, PH 8.2, Temp 79.2. All parameters are rock solid.
I don't target feed. I'm doing 2x daily Broadcast Reef Frenzy. 5ml of Zoo and Phytoplankton once a week.

Happens to mine occasionally too, seemingly out of the blue.

Do yours bounce back just fine after that happens?

Mine do that after a water change, seems to happen out of the blue, no apparent reason.

I've had this happen with my three colonies too. It's not uncommon for them all to do it, and it usually only lasts a day or so. No need to panic.

It's now day 3 but I'm seeing some improvement today - the swelling's gone down and I've got sweepers back. Thanks for the reassurance, guys, I feel a lot better about it now.

Glad this resolved itself. I’ve had acans do the same “randomly unhappy for a couple days” thing too, even when the numbers look fine. For anyone finding this later, I wouldn’t start chasing parameters right away if calcium, alk, mag, pH, and temp are stable. I’d first check the simple stuff: recent water change, flow hitting it differently, nearby coral sweepers, light intensity, or anything irritating the flesh. If the tissue isn’t melting/receding and feeders/sweepers start coming back, giving it a little time is often better than making a bunch of changes. Acans can be dramatic little weirdos sometimes.
