Had good luck with my potters, but then I lost him. Replaced him with a flame angel, and that was a mistake. He started picking at my open brains, just a little at first, but it escalated quickly. They shriveled up, and I lost a nice one. I had to tear apart my 90 to catch him - what a pain. Beautiful fish, but just not worth the risk.

I let out a few choice phrases, to say the least.
I grabbed this one, along with an Eibli, BiColor, and a Coral Beauty - just covering my bases. Guess that Centropyge experiment didn't quite pan out.
Re: will a flame angel harass lps corals?
I had my flame angel in a 120 for several years and he was a perfect citizen, always well fed.
But things took a turn for the worse when I started noticing my trachys and Caulastrea were getting nipped. At first, I didn't suspect a thing since my flame had been so well-behaved for so long. It wasn't until I caught him in the act, ripping chunks off my favorite open brain, that I realized the truth.
To me, it's not a matter of if a flame angel will pick on corals, but when. My experience was that LPS corals were his main target, and I'm pretty sure he was snacking on some zoas as well.
Despite being one of my favorite fish, I think the risks outweigh the benefits.

I'm dealing with a flame angel that I think is munching on my zoas. I had an eibli that was also eating them, along with some other stuff, but I managed to catch the little guy. The flame angel seems to be leaving everything else alone, just going after the zoas.

I took a chance on a Flameback Pygmy angel last year. So far, it's been a good experience.

I've had my flame angel for 7 months now, in a tank with hammers, frogspawn, and zoanthids - zero issues. My flame angel's always grazing the rock work, munching on algae, and eating a varied diet of mysis, plankton, and even squid. I started a thread about buying a flame angel and got mixed responses, but I think once they develop a taste for coral, it's game over. Luckily, my flame angel was tiny when I got it and has doubled in size since. I'm more worried about my porcupine puffer eating my corals than the flame angel. The flame angel's been a great addition so far, fingers crossed it stays that way.

My new flame angel's a different story. I haven't seen him take a bite out of anything, but someone's nipping at my corals and he's my top suspect.
