Re: discus tank water prep tips
UV's overkill unless you've got algae or disease issues. I'd focus on the basics first. How's your filter media setup? I run sponges and bio rings in my canister. Also, what's your lighting schedule? Mine's on for 8 hours, seems to keep the plants happy without stressing the fish.

Re: discus tank water prep tips
I've got a similar setup, 75 gallon with a canister filter. Used Seachem Prime during cycling. Took about 3 weeks to stabilize. Now I do 30% changes twice a week. My Discus seem happy, but I'm not sure if I should increase the frequency. They're eating well, mostly frozen bloodworms and flakes ...

Re: Why is my discus hiding in corners?
Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I've had them for about 3 months, so not super new. Filter's a canister, but I'll check the flow. pH is 6.8, and I use tap with Prime. No recent changes, but I'll try dimming the lights and adding more plants. Appreciate the help!

Why is my discus hiding in corners?
My discus have been hiding in the corners of the tank for the past few days. They're in a 75-gallon tank with a sand substrate, some driftwood, and a few Amazon swords. Water params are good, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, nitrate around 10 ppm. Temp is steady at 84°F, and I do 30% water changes twice a week ...

Re: 500 Gallon project, Dreaming of keeping Discus but afraid!
Thanks a lot, Lippyton. The scape in the photo is just a sample, I used it to explain my plan for a white sand substrate with rocks and driftwood only, no live plants. My actual planned scape will be simpler.

Re: 500 Gallon project, Dreaming of keeping Discus but afraid!
So my main concern with this setup, given the limited space I have below the tank, is whether it's suitable for keeping Discus. I've never kept them before, but I do have experience with African Cichlids, which I know will thrive in ...
