Feeding large polyp stony corals

Hey everyone,

I've been keeping a reef tank for a few years now, and I recently made the switch to mostly SPS with a few LPS corals. Lately, I've been thinking about feeding my LPS corals individually. My main question is, when I target feed the individual mouths or corallites, does that provide ...

Re: is this list accurate?

You might also want to think about the order in which you add the fish. I'd say, introduce the less aggressive ones first and save the most aggressive for last. That way, they're not stressing out the others.

Re: is this list accurate?

I'd suggest choosing between the 6 line and the Royal Gramma, having both might not be the best idea.

My experience with the Coflake Beauty has been great so far - three months in and no issues with nipping.

Re: Large polyp stony coral identification request

Thanks so much, zenoxa - I think you nailed it. I really appreciate you taking the time to dig through your books and find that match. The Montastrea cavernosa looks like a great fit.

Re: Large polyp stony coral identification request

I'd rule out Tubastrea due to the lack of a hard skeleton. The fluorescent green inside each corallite is a notable feature, though it's not easily visible from the picture.

Large polyp stony coral identification request

Bought this LPS as a single polyp about 2 years back, and it's developed into a nice little colony over time. I vaguely recall it being from the Atlantic, but that's about it - can't seem to remember any other specifics. Haven't come across a similar one since then. Any ID thoughts would be ...

Re: A closer look at toadstool mushroom

I had a similar experience with my toadstool - it was a bit of a drama queen when I first introduced it to the tank. Took a few days for the polyps to fully extend, but after that, it was good to go.

One thing I've noticed is that it retracts its polyps for a bit every day, usually after the ...

Apologies, I sometimes forget not everyone's a seasoned reefkeeper like myself.

Re: keeping saltwater fish

As someone with years of experience keeping freshwater fish, I've found that saltwater fish aren't necessarily harder to care for. However, the saltwater environment is far more demanding and requires a much stricter routine. Neglecting this routine can have disastrous consequences, causing your ...
