Re: Identifying potential issues with brain coral growth
I think Stormy's theory that the coral was recently fragged and the Coralline algae is just starting to grow makes sense, especially since it's been about a month since they got it. If that's the case, the exposed skeleton would be a pretty good explanation for the pink spots. I still think it's ...

Identifying potential issues with brain coral growth
I've been keeping an eye on my Brain coral and I just noticed some bright pink spots along one of the edges. I'm also curious about the ID, I got it as a moon coral frag for $20 but Live Aquaria lists it as a war coral - not a huge deal, but I'd love to know for sure. Mainly, I want to make sure it ...

Re: my holiday stocking list
I just found out that the Wrasse I saw was a Scott's Fairy Wrasse, which is actually on my list already. That's really odd, I was under the impression that Chromis were schooling fish, my LFS told me that too. I'm starting to wonder if it's better to see how the three chromis interact with each ...

Re: my holiday stocking list
I'm thinking of adding another type of Fairy Wrasse from the LFS, does anyone know if the Cirrhilabrus Fairy Wrasse would work well in my tank? I've also been reading that Chromis are schooling fish, but I've heard they can turn on each other - would I really end up with just one in the long run?

Re: my holiday stocking list
What I'm thinking is, I need a showstopper for the tank. Something that'll be the centerpiece, but still reef-safe. Any ideas on that?

Re: my holiday stocking list
I'm aware of the risks with Coflake Beauties, but I'm willing to take the gamble. If things don't work out, I'll just return the fish.

my holiday stocking list
I'm looking for some input on my stocking list for my 55 gallon reef tank:
1 Scott's Fairy Wrasse
2 Ocellaris Clownfish
3 Blue/Green Chromis
1 Bicolor Pseudochromis
2 Gobies - any suggestions on types would be great
1 Firtideflow
That's my current fish list, but I'm still deciding on inverts and ...

Re: choosing the right lighting for a refugium
I've heard metal halides are the way to go for refugium lighting, but to be honest, I've never been too great with figuring out the specifics on wattage and all that. From what I understand, they're great for giving plants a boost of light, which in turn helps with oxygen production through ...

Re: Optimal placement for hammer coral stalks
New heads can indeed grow on the stalk, and in my experience, this usually happens closer to the existing heads as the tissue drops down and then recedes once the new head starts forming its own endoskeleton. If you don't have any heads at the base of the stalk, I think you're fine to bury it ...

Re: Optimal placement for hammer coral stalks
My main concern now is the stalk itself - do I need to bury most of it or is it fine to leave it exposed like it is now. The stalk is around 3" long, and I noticed at the LFS they had it stuck in a hole they drilled into the rock.
