recommended books on african cichlids?
I'm after a decent book on African cichlids, specifically one that covers all the species from the three lakes. Trouble is, the ones I've found that do this are way out of my budget, £150 or more. Does anyone know of a more affordable option, around £30?

are copadichromis borleyi and german reds identical?
I just got 2 German reds from one pet store, then a week later I grabbed 2 female Copadichromis borleyi from another store. But here's the thing, when I looked up the males of that species, they're pretty much identical to my German reds. I'm totally lost, can someone please help me out?

does coral sand and ocean rock increase ph levels?
Just setting up my 55 gallon cichlid tank and I've got a question about my substrate and rock. I've picked up 25kg of ocean rock and 16kg of coflake sand - will this combo push my pH too high? I'm planning on keeping lake malawi cichlids, so I need to keep the pH between 7.8-8.6.

A memorable first fry
I put up a post asking if anyone knew if my female sp 44 was holding fry, didn't get any replies so I decided to take a chance and strip her, and to my surprise out popped 5 healthy looking little ones.

is my female sp 44 holding?
I've had my 4 sp 44's for about a month now, 2 males and 2 females. They're only around 2" and I haven't seen any breeding activity yet. However, I have noticed over the past few days that one of my females hasn't been eating and is isolating herself from the rest of the tank. She's also got a small ...
