Re: Hammer coral showing skeleton

General questions on Euphyllia - once any head begins to show tissue separation, is that the beginning of the end? I've had my share of struggles with these corals and I'm curious if anyone's been able to save a detaching head and nurse it back to health.

After mine separated, it was a lost ...

Re: are my fish displaying courtship behavior?

So now that you've confirmed they're mating, what's the plan for the potential fry?

Re: are my fish displaying courtship behavior?

I'm pretty sure fish don't get the same vibe as us when they lock jaws - it's probably just fighting. Unless things escalate, I wouldn't worry too much, they're just figuring out the pecking order.

Re: What constitutes rapid growth in corals

I've seen that with my own corals, they start off slow, then suddenly they just take off. More polyps or branches mean more new heads sprouting up, it's like they hit a growth spurt once they get established.

Re: Do i need a second filter

Was the filter cycled, I'm just wondering because adding another filter won't help with that, it's still gonna take some time. The extra filter will help with the ammonia and nitrite levels once it's cycled though.

Re: options for my 20-gallon tank

Honestly, I'm skeptical about keeping more than a pair of cichlids in a 20g. Most species just need too much space and territory. Shelldwellers might work, though - they're generally more laid-back and could potentially coexist in smaller groups.

Re: information on anomalochromis thomasi

I appreciate your insight, it's really helpful. With many cichlids, I've found that having a larger group can often help to distribute aggression more evenly - could this be the case with A. thomasi as well?

information on anomalochromis thomasi

Hey everyone,
I've been doing some research on a peaceful cichlid species that could work well in my oddballs tank. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of info available on the usual websites I visit.

For a 3-foot tank, how many of these cichlids do you think I could keep comfortably?
What level of ...
