Re: identifying a mysterious fish species
Looks like it could be a cobalt blue zebra mix, African cichlids can be tough to ID for me. I'm pretty sure it's male, got those egg spots on the anal fin.

Re: identifying my new peacocks
I'm guessing these are sub-adults, but I could be wrong. Pic 2 looks like Aulonocara nyassae to me, and pic 4 seems like Aulonocara baenschi. Honestly, I'm not super familiar with Malawi cichlids, so take my ID's for what they're worth.

Re: discovering the world of cichlids
I'm assuming your water's on the harder side, given you're keeping Rift Lake cichlids, mid to hardish GH, right?

Re: How to quarantine plants for healthy growth
I was wondering, do you know what kind of treatment the plants have had? Did they give you a rough idea of what plants you might be getting in the bundle? I'm a bit skeptical about getting 50 proper aquatic plants from Zorchzon, to be honest.
I'm a firm believer in quarantining new plants for a ...

Re: How to quarantine plants for healthy growth
I've just made a last-ditch attempt at having a planted tank, despite my fish's best efforts to eat and uproot them. I've ordered a biotope bundle from the shop, which is essentially a mystery box of 50 plants from a region of my choice - I went with South America. After reading the fine print ...

Re: How to quarantine plants for healthy growth
I've come across vids of people dipping plants on YouTube, never actually done it myself though, King of D.I.Y has a video on the subject, might be worth a look, just search his channel.
The company reckons they've been treated but can't 100% guarantee no snails or parasites will come with ...

Impulse purchases: worth the splurge?
Today I picked up some random plants for my 500l tank, it's still lightly planted but has loads of artificial decor, and I'm in the process of switching to all natural. I've already got 5 Zorchzon swords and 5 Marimo moss balls, and today I'm adding hornwort, Java fern, and yeah more Marimo moss. I ...

Re: easy plants for beginners to grow
I've got just the thing for you, ladster - Anacharis is perfect for those of us who don't want to fuss too much. It's a super fast grower and literally all you need to do is chuck it in the tank and give it some light, job done.
For filling in the back of the tank, I'd suggest a couple of ...

easy plants for beginners to grow
Sorted the stocking I think. Got a 4ft 70g with 4 electric blue acara, 2 convicts and a leopard Sailfin pleco. Thinking of adding another pair of ebacat, but we'll see. All my plants are plastic at the moment, looks alright but I'm keen to ditch the plastic and go for something more natural. Ordered ...
