Re: my euphyllia has brown jelly, help!
Thanks for the tips, everyone. Gonna move it to QT, dip it, and check alk/calcium. Temp is steady at 78, phosphates at 0.03. No new fish, but added a couple of zoa frags last week. Skimmer's running, water changes weekly.

my euphyllia has brown jelly, help!
My Euphyllia started showing brown jelly yesterday. Tank is a 40 gallon, running for 8 months, parameters are 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 10 nitrate, salinity at 1.025. Lighting is AI Prime, 8 hours a day. Other corals seem fine. What's the move here?

Re: help with my 20g shellie tank
I was thinking about adding some apple snails to the mix - I've always been a fan of those little guys. Not sure if it'd work with the multis, but I thought I'd throw it out there. I've decided against the calvus, to be honest - I just don't feel right about putting a fish that can grow to 6" in a ...

Re: help with my 20g shellie tank
Also, about the calvus... even if I get a small one, won't it eventually outgrow my tank? I've read they can reach up to 6 inches - that's a lot of fish for a 20g. I'm not sure when I'll be able to upgrade, this is already my fourth tank and I don't see a fifth one in the near future, so I want to ...

Re: help with my 20g shellie tank
I've come across a few different opinions on adding salt to the setup, is this something people normally do with Tanganyikan tanks? I'm a bit unsure about the amount to add as well, I've heard it's not a lot, but I don't want to overdo it.
Also, if I do end up getting a calvus (they're gorgeous, by ...

Re: help with my 20g shellie tank
Just got the water test results from my office - pH is somewhere between 7.5 and 8.0, it's too dark for 7.5 but too light for 8.0. GH is 200ppm and KH is 90ppm. To be honest, I'm not entirely sure what this means... I get the pH, but I'm new to the whole GH and KH testing thing.

Re: help with my 20g shellie tank
I'm in a soft water area, so I'm not sure if I should add lake salt or just the other stuff. I know I'll need to add sodium bicarbonate and magnesium sulphate, but what are those commonly called? I've already ordered a bunch of shells online, probably way too many, but I'm excited to get this tank ...

Re: help with my 20g shellie tank
I've decided on a 20g, and I actually have a perfect spot in my office for it - there's a 32" gap that I can fill with the tank. I'm leaning towards the multis, they seem pretty easy to find here but they're definitely on the pricier side.

help with my 20g shellie tank
Just set up my own office space at work and I'm planning to get a 10g tank going - still need to get the water tested for pH, hardness, and all that jazz. Tentatively got the green light, so I'm starting to think about stocking. I want something a bit unique, not your run-of-the-mill community setup ...
