Re: information on raising baby bettas

$19.99 is actually a pretty reasonable price for an elephant ear betta, especially considering my local Petco charges $24.99.

As for determining the sex of a betta, it usually takes around 4 months before it's possible to tell with certainty. Some bettas may be easier to sex sooner, but generally ...

Re: information on raising baby bettas

Baby bettas are way too young to sex, and their fin shapes are still developing - it's like buying a mystery betta. They're usually too small for pellets and need specialized food, which is why many look so thin in stores. Sadly, a lot of them don't survive because they're so young and people don't ...

Re: betta experiences with small floating logs

Yeah, it's a toilet plumbing pipe I'm using.

I'm not entirely sure what went wrong with your Java Fern, but I usually just sit mine on a piece of wood or rock and tie some fishing line around the roots and the base. I don't really see the roots attach, but I'm sure they do - I just leave the ...

Re: betta experiences with small floating logs

I picked up the PVC in the plumbing section of my local hardware store, already in this size - about 3in in diameter and 4-5in in length. I've also got some curved pieces and smaller straight ones, which my wild bettas like - the Betta Albimarginata, for example. The moss on my PVC tunnels is a mix ...

Re: betta experiences with small floating logs

I'm so sorry - I thought I'd posted these pics already. LOL.

Here's one of them - this is the "messier" looking one. I think it's a great way to add some character to the tank.

And here's the other one - you can see my male Betta Midas in there, holding his eggs/fry. It's amazing how much they ...

Re: betta experiences with small floating logs

If you're interested, I can take my log out of the tank and snap some photos of the rough areas that I'm concerned about - the little holes and indentations that I mentioned earlier. I can also share some pictures of my PVC pipe creations, all finished and moss-covered, so you can see how they ...

Re: betta experiences with small floating logs

I've had a different experience with these floating logs - I think they're quite rough and sharp, which makes me hesitant to use them with fancy bettas. In my largest tank, I have one that works well with my wild bettas, whose fins are much more resilient. However, I also have a L/F BN in that tank ...

Re: betta fish flaring

Bettas can start flaring at a really young age, even in the juvenile stage. Their personalities play a role in it, so some just won't flare. Some bettas are triggered by reflections, others by other fish, and some are specific to their own sex. If you want to try with Fezzik, I'd suggest getting a ...
