Discus tank biofilm concerns
Noticed a weird slimy film on the surface of my 75 gallon Discus tank. Water params are good, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 10 nitrate. Running a Fluval FX6, temp at 84F, weekly 50% water changes. Anyone else deal with this? It's kinda sketchy.

Re: Discus breeding tank size matters
Yo, bigger is always better with Discus. My 75-gallon breeding tank is lit, and the fish are way less stressed. I do 50% water changes every day, no exceptions. Also, feed 'em beef heart mix for max growth.

Re: discus tankmates for 55 gallons
I'd skip the bigger stuff like Rams, they can be hit or miss. Stick to small, peaceful fish that won't steal the spotlight. Maybe some Cherry Shrimp if your Discus aren't too curious, but mine ate 'em all, lol.

Re: why is my discus so skittish?
Thanks for the tips, everyone. I'll try dimming the lights and see if that helps. The tank is in the living room, so it's kinda busy. I do 30% water changes twice a week, using Seachem Prime. Maybe I'll add some floaters like frogbit.

why is my discus so skittish?
My discus have been acting super jumpy lately, darting around the tank whenever I walk by. Tank is a 75 gallon, temp at 84F, pH 6.8, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 10 nitrate. They're about 4 months old, fed beef heart mix twice a day. Tankmates are 6 cardinal tetras and a pair of rams. Filter is a Fluval ...

Fish That Don't Eat My Plants
My anubias aren't growing well, and I think my fish are nibbling on them. Anyone got suggestions for fish that won't mess with my plants? Tank's a 20 gallon, low tech, with a sponge filter and sand substrate. Lighting's moderate, 6 hours a day.

Re: best filter for a discus aquarium
Also, don't forget to check the flow rate after a few months. Canisters can slow down as gunk builds up. My FX4 dropped to a trickle once, and I didn't notice until the water got cloudy. Discus were pissed, lol.

Re: best filter for a discus aquarium
Yo, skip the canister mess if you ain't tryna clean it every month. Get a sump, bruh. Way more room for media, easier maintenance, and you can hide heaters and other junk in there. My 75 gallon sump's got filter socks, bio balls, and a protein skimmer. Discus been thriving, no cap.
Nah, sumps ...
