Re: Growing aquarium plants outdoors
I've also added some frogbit to the mix, we'll see how that fares. I'm not holding out much hope for most of the plants to make it past September, but hopefully they'll thrive through the summer months. I'm planning on introducing some fish once the water warms up a bit - White Clouds are a definite ...

Growing aquarium plants outdoors
I've recently picked up some half whisky barrels and decided to give them a new life as mini outdoor ponds by lining them with pond liner. Living in Scotland, I'm no stranger to the unpredictable weather - warm days followed by chilly nights.

Re: Where to buy plants and fish online
No I'm not, I'm actually in the US, which is why I mentioned Wetspot out of Portland and other US-based retailers, but I'm curious, are there any good options in the UK for buying aquarium plants and fish?

Re: My cichlid is afraid of light
I'm guessing you've got a pretty rocky setup in that tank of yours, but honestly, the more hiding spots your fish have, the better they'll feel. African cichlids, right? I'm assuming no plants in there. You might want to try covering the top with some water lettuce or something to cut down on the ...

Re: I'm facing a difficult decision, what should i do
When people discuss dirt in aquariums, they're often referring to a nutrient-rich layer, such as compost, placed beneath gravel or sand.
If you're looking for a filler, several options could work - sand or gravel, for instance. However, I'd recommend something inert, as the eco complete already ...

Re: I'm facing a difficult decision, what should i do
I'm not sure I see the point in combining eco complete with dirt. Eco complete is supposed to provide all the necessary nutrients to the plant roots, so adding dirt seems like overkill to me. Unless, of course, you're looking for a cheaper alternative to buying a second bag of eco complete.

Re: Nyerere cichlid holding tanks
Yeah, I think that's probably it. I've no experience with breeding Africans myself, so can't offer much in the way of advice, but the symptoms you've described do sound like a holding female.

Re: Juwel vision 260 filter outlet issue discussion
I've got my outlet nozzle pointing in a similar direction, slightly towards the back wall. A spray bar could be a good solution to dissipate the flow from the pump. In my tank, I've got a lot of floating plants covering about half of it, which probably helps to break up the flow, especially in the ...

Re: Is my cichlid too small
She's only been in the small tank for about a week, I think. If she's happy, I'd leave her alone for now and focus on feeding her up - it's worth a shot. Reintroducing her to the established tank could be a challenge, especially since all the other fish have already staked their claim. It's a bit ...

Re: Growing vallisneria in soft water
Val's been a breeze for me, despite having pretty soft water. I've grown it for years with no issues, actually it's been the opposite, it's done great.
