Re: discus fry survival rate tips
True that. Parents can be sketchy. If you're gonna leave 'em in, make sure they're well fed. Hungry discus turn into jerks real quick.

Re: discus fry survival rate tips
Yo, try mixing in some microworms with the brine shrimp. Gives 'em variety and they go nuts for it. Also, keep the tank bare bottom, easier to clean and less chance of nasties building up.

Re: why discus swim at tank bottom?
Yep, plants help a ton. Mine love hiding in the valisneria when they wanna chill. Low tech plants work fine if you don't wanna mess with CO2.

Re: why discus swim at tank bottom?
Yo, my discus did this once when the filter was too strong. They got tired of fighting the current and just camped out at the bottom. Maybe check your flow? Also, how's the lighting? Too bright can freak 'em out.

Re: Future Discus Setup
If you're serious about keeping discus, a single weekly water change is not going to cut it. To be honest, I've seen people struggle with even two changes a week, but that's the bare minimum. Anything less and you're setting yourself up for problems down the line.

Re: Any of you HAVE to have dithers?
You're right, just my discus jumping at feeding time, usually one or two. I've got a pretty lively tank with 10 rams, 5 ottos, 10 bronze Cory's, a bn pleco, about 50+ red cherry shrimp, and an SAE. Dither fish are meant to calm down spooked discus, typically ...

Any of you HAVE to have dithers?
Curious, do any of you have tanks where dithers are a must-have to keep your discus calm, especially when it's feeding time and they start darting around?

New tank suggestions needed
I'm getting a new 200 litre tropical tank soon, a Fluval Roma 200.
I've got a 450 litre community tank already, with a mix of fish like kitty tetras, ember tetras, guppies, rummy noses, bristlenoses and so on.
For this new tank, I'm looking for a single, larger fish - around 15cm adult size ...

Re: Will BB with 80% WC 3x/wk stunt 3 inchers?
I'm after the sweet spot where water changes meet growth potential. Not about illnesses, just the stunt/no stunt threshold. Assuming a 75g tank, 10 three-inch fish, moderate feeding (4x/day, no BH), I figure daily 50% water changes won't stunt most of ...
