Re: behavior of female kribensis
That's probably it. My female kribs were always the ones taking charge when breeding time rolled around. She's likely marking out a territory for spawning.

Re: keeping cichlids
My mbuna seem to hold anywhere from 21 to 28 days, so it's a pretty decent range. If you want the fry to have the best shot at survival without removing them, try creating a bunch of rock piles using small rocks for hiding spots. What type of cichlid is it, and what other fish are in the tank, by ...

Re: is my yellow lab holding?
I've had decent success with letting the female raise her fry in my African community tank. The survival rate might not be spectacular, but it's a heck of a lot better than tearing the whole tank apart and stressing everyone out. I just scatter some small rock piles around - not too much planning ...

Re: Lab with kribensis and yellow coloration
I'm sure you could make it work, I've seen some unusual fish combinations that surprisingly did fine. Different pH levels are required for both, but I've seen cichlids that prefer high pH thrive and breed in about 7.1pH. It's not your typical setup, like having cichlids from the same lake or discus ...

Pictures of fry
Here are a few pics of my White Lab and Brichardi babies. I've stripped the Lab eggs, but I'm gonna leave the other future batches in the main tank and see how it goes. My Lab fry are about 5 weeks old now, but I'm not entirely sure about the Brichardi - there are a few different generations in ...

Re: A few pictures
Thanks for the comments. Two large groups, hoping for less aggression as time goes on. Everyone's eating, looking healthy. Been keeping an eye on the tank during the day, making sure no one's getting picked on. Fingers crossed for some females holding soon.

Re: A few pictures
The Java Ferns in my 55g are thriving, by the way. I just realized I mentioned they were clippings, but I should clarify they've got roots on them now. Those were actually clippings from a while back. What I do with any clippings is toss them in a 10g to grow out a bit, then when I need some, I just ...

Re: A few pictures
In both my tanks, what I did was either set the rocks in first or push the sand to one side and place the rocks. This way, the rocks are more secure and you get these deeper caves when you sweep the sand back over the rocks. The sand doesn't fill the void underneath the rocks, so it creates this ...

Re: A few pictures
Thanks for the kind words, I was going for a natural look with the rockwork. The plants are Java Fern and they're doing alright so far. They were just some leftover clippings from my other tank, so if the Demasoni do decide to tear them up, no big deal.
