Re: electric yellow cichlid not hatching

Don't rely just on looks and smell, nitrates can still be building up and need to be removed with regular water changes. Ammonia and nitrite spikes can also be a problem, do you have a testing kit to keep an eye on things?

Re: keeping the red zebra cichlid (metriaclima estherae)

When it comes to cichlids, overstocking can be a good thing, just make sure your tank is fully cycled. This can actually reduce aggression, as the fish will have less time to focus on each other.

You'll want to create a lot of hiding places in the tank, I'm talking lots of rock scape. Every little ...

identifying a cichlid species

Rescued this fella from my local fish store where he was swimming with the wrong crowd, so I brought him home to figure out if he's a keeper or if I should rehome him for his own good.

Re: Setting up a mbuna tank guide for beginners

I've had my fair share of experience with filters, and to be honest, I don't rate the Fluval 306 that highly. I've moved on to using an FX6 and a Tetra EX1200, both of which I think are brilliant - they come with media and all that.

In terms of placement, unless you're going for an undergravel ...

Re: have i potentially caused future issues?

With Cichlids, you need to overstock, but make sure you over filtrate to balance it out. I'm talking at least 4.5x the tank's volume in water turnover per hour if you're stocking at 1.5x the tank's capacity. My own 55G setup, for example, uses a Fluval FX6 and a 305, which gives me over 4000L/pH ...

Re: my large cichlid aquarium setup

Thanks for the feedback, harmonybob.
Adding more large rocks is definitely an option, but I've got two concerns holding me back - the weight on the glass, and my cichlids are notorious diggers, I don't want a rockslide on my hands.
I've tried to keep the lowest points covered to break lines of ...

Re: my large cichlid aquarium setup

Thanks a lot, I appreciate the kind words. If I ever decide to call it quits on the hobby, I'll definitely keep you in mind. You can have the tank and all the jealousy that comes with it.

my large cichlid aquarium setup

Just a quick video of my tank, was wondering if you guys had any feedback or if you like the setup.

I had the air stone moved to the side, just temporarily while I was cleaning behind the rocks.

Would appreciate any constructive criticism, thanks.
