First off, congrats on getting them to spawn! That's half the battle. Are you doing daily water changes? Fry are super sensitive to water quality. I'd bump it to 20% daily, use aged water if possible. Also, what's your feeding routine for the fry? They need infusoria or baby brine shrimp almost ...

Thanks for the insight, that's helpful to know. I'll probably go with a mix of pellets in an auto feeder, seems like the way to go for me. Pellets work better in the feeder, rather than flake.

A handful of ceramic bio pieces should do the trick. Just keep a close eye on levels and water changes after the transfer to make sure everything's keeping pace.

Put those sponges in now, let them seed for a bit. Then when you move the discus, transfer some of that biological media and tank water too. That should be more than enough to get the 20 gallon tank cycled and stable for them.

When do you plan on transferring the discus to the 20-gallon tank? Instead of immediately switching bio media, could you just add a couple of sponges to the 20-gallon tank to seed it in the meantime? I think switching the bio media is also a good idea, but seeding the tank first might be a safer ...

If you can do a 50% water change in a couple of minutes, why not do a 100% water change instead? The difference in growth will be significantly better.
