Re: algae takeover in coral tank help
One last thing—if your rocks are leaching, consider a short blackout. 3 days max, with a blanket over the tank. Corals will bounce back, but algae hates it. Just keep an eye on oxygen levels.

Re: algae takeover in coral tank help
Had the same issue last month. Gonna sound weird, but try reducing your light intensity by 20% for a week. Also, grab a few Trochus snails, they're beasts for hair algae. What's your phosphate level? High PO4 feeds that stuff like crazy.
Agreed on the phosphates. Test with a Hanna checker if ...

Re: identifying the sex of my new peacocks
I'll take a stab at this.
1. Sunshine cichlid - That's my best guess for this one.
2. OB or calico cichlid - The markings seem right for one of these.
3. Jacobfreiberg or fairy cichlid - Can't quite decide between the two.
The others, I'm not too confident on, but I'll keep looking.

Re: growing hornwort: tips and best practices
You can boost growth by adding some soluble garden fertiliser to the water with your elodea. Just use half to one level tablespoon for every 20 litres of water, or follow the instructions on the packaging if it's a concentrated formula.
Would aquarium fertiliser work the same way as garden ...

Definitely has the same benefits. I personally think it's prettier than hornwort.

Re: growing hornwort: tips and best practices
Leave it as is, I'd say, but I'm pretty sure that's elodea you've got there. Can't quite tell from the pic, got a close-up? Either way, it'll grow like crazy, just like hornwort, so no need to stress about it.
It was actually listed as Egeria densa on the eBay listing, but the description did ...

growing hornwort: tips and best practices
I've got a single strand of hornwort growing outside in a container. I'm thinking of cutting it into sections to promote growth - or should I just leave it as is? I've also got some duckweed on the way to add to the mix.

Re: Floating plants suitable for rift lake cichlids
Still struggling with algae control. Tried seveflake, didn't work out.
Had some success with duckweed, actually ate it all up. But hornwort and frogbit didn't last long, got destroyed.
Looking for alternative solutions - any other recommendations?
