Yeah, trace elements can be sneaky. I had a tank go sideways once because I forgot to dose iron for a month. Plants looked like crap, fish were pissed.

Sketchy behavior from the Angelfish might mean something's off with the water temp. What heater are you using, and is it consistent? My guys freak out if the temp swings more than a degree or two.

Co2 can be safe if you're careful. I've run it in my 120 gallon discus tank for years. Key is to keep the co2 levels stable, around 20-30 ppm. Use a drop checker to monitor. My setup has a planted tank with driftwood, and I do 50% water changes twice a week. Discus are sensitive to ph swings, so ...

Had this happen last year. My tap water's KH was sketchy low. Started mixing in RO with a remineralizer, and problem solved. What's your tap KH?
