Re: is co2 safe for discus tanks?

Thinking about adding co2 to my 75 gallon discus tank. They're all around 4 inches, been in there for about 6 months. Tankmates are 10 cardinal tetras and a pair of rams. Running a Fluval 407 canister, sand substrate, and some Amazon swords. Water params are good, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, nitrate ...

Re: Discus tank flow for happy fish

Ditch the HOB, fam. Canisters are way better for Discus. I run two sponges and a small canister in my 60g. Flow's gentle but steady. Also, throw in some catappa leaves—they're like fish Xanax.

Re: Discus tank flow for happy fish

Yo, my Discus hated the FX4's flow too. I slapped a pre-filter on the intake and cranked the output down. Now they vibe near the driftwood. Also, try feeding near the calm spots—they'll learn where to chill.

Re: best food for vibrant discus colors

Alright, I'm sold. Gonna try the beef heart mix. Any tips on how to get them to eat it at first? My Discus can be picky. Tank's got a bunch of neon tetras and some otos. Water changes are 30% weekly, temp at 84°F. The filter's a hang-on-back, and I've got some dwarf hairgrass in there.

Re: best food for vibrant discus colors

No prob, Marksfish. Let us know how it works out. Oh, and if you're lazy like me, you can buy pre-made beef heart mix from some online stores. Just check the ingredients first. Some brands cut it with too much filler. My tank's got a bunch of cardinal tetras as tankmates, and they steal the food if ...

Re: best food for vibrant discus colors

Yo, Marksfish, you gotta try beef heart mix. It's the GOAT for color. I've been using a homemade blend with shrimp, spinach, and a bit of paprika. My Discus went from dull to dazzling in like 3 weeks. Tank's 55 gallons, bare bottom for easy cleanup, and I feed twice a day. Water changes are 50 ...

Re: How long have you been without power?

I was out for 5 hours. Luckily I had my trusty air pump battery backup, so the water kept circulating. No heat though, that would've been a different story.

Look for aquatic plants available in your area. Ones that'll work well with the fish you have - I'm sure you've got some ideas on that already.

Re: maintaining a thriving planted tank

I'd suggest adding floating and submerged plants to your tank - it gives the fish some nice hiding spots. Looks nice, btw.
