Re: troubleshooting my planted aquarium issues

I think the substrate depth could be the issue here. I've found that swords tend to do better with a deeper root network, so I'd recommend aiming for 2-3 inches of substrate. If it's too shallow, they'll likely grow short and wide instead of developing those long stems you're looking for.

Re: Betta struggles after roundworm treatment

I'm stumped, it sounds like you've covered all bases. One thing that might be worth trying is adding some garlic to his food - I've heard nematodes aren't too fond of allicin. I've used Seachem Garlic Guard in the past, but you could also try a DIY approach if you're feeling adventurous ...

Re: How to quarantine plants for healthy growth

I've just made a last-ditch attempt at having a planted tank, despite my fish's best efforts to eat and uproot them. I've ordered a biotope bundle from the shop, which is essentially a mystery box of 50 plants from a region of my choice - I went with South America. After reading the fine print, I ...

Re: Growing vallisneria in soft water

My water's around 5.7 dGH and I've found vallisneria does alright, I think the key is it's a root feeder so it's probably more about the nutrients in the substrate or using root tabs.

Considering your location in the UK, I'd suggest going with TNC root plugs - they're a great option and don't ...

Re: online resources for plant enthusiasts

Been really pleased with the plants I got from Tropical Fish Keeping UK - they've got the full Tropica range, which is a big plus for me.

Re: When is a garden too densely planted?

That Anubias is pretty large for the betta tank, consider moving it to the 20 gallon and then reposition the Java Fern behind the scuba helmet ornament - it'll fill out nicely over time.

Re: When is a garden too densely planted?

Your setup is coming along nicely. Floating plants like frogbit would be a great addition for your betta, and they'll also help tone down the light on the Anubias.

Re: Growing christmas moss: tips and advice

I'd start by trimming off the dead bits, then you can attach it to whatever you like - driftwood, decor, doesn't matter. Superglue, fishing line or thread will all work, personally I think black marine-grade thread is the way to go.

Enjoy!

(Here's how I did it with java moss in my 29g, just ...
