Re: Which plants are best for my space?
I think lagenandra is a fascinating plant, and I've found that mine does better in shaded areas. If you're looking for some unique shapes and colors, I'd highly recommend exploring different types of crypts - they're a great choice for adding some visual interest to your tank. Just be sure to ...

Re: the steel wool of the plant world
Here are a couple of pictures - first the back, then the front; on the front, that long line of green is actually a piece of driftwood. The stuff mostly grows on hardscape - driftwood, sponge filters, heater - it doesn't seem to grow on the substrate or glass. Something happened in the tank that ...

Re: Daily water changes in a 10g sps tank: sufficient maintenance?
I think it's a mistake to rush into SPS without getting some experience under your belt. I started out with big dreams of a 210-gallon SPS tank, but it almost drove me crazy. I ended up switching gears and focusing on LPS and softies, and it's been a much more enjoyable ride. Now, after a few years ...

Re: the steel wool of the plant world
In the aquarium, I view them as mere decorations - their functionality is limited unless you derive aesthetic pleasure from them. The concept of "thinking plants" is intriguing, though I recently stumbled upon an interview with Robert Plant, and he was surprisingly eloquent, which led me to ponder ...

Re: I love the chihiros wrgb 2.
I'm not a huge fan of the Chihiros WRGB II - it lacks a white LED, making it tough to capture colour-balanced pics. The colour shift does make the plants and fish pop, but it's not my cup of tea. There's a pro model with a white LED, but it's ridiculously pricey. I've also tried the Fluval Plant 3.0 ...

Re: buying fish that's been shipped: what to expect
I'm considering getting a betta from eBay. Has anyone had any experience with buying fish that way?
It's not eBay itself that's the issue, it's the individual sellers. I've had good experiences buying from reliable sellers on the platform, but if you end up with an incompetent one, you can ...

Re: Growing my barclaya longifolia plants
I'm a bit skeptical about their lifespan, to be honest - I've got a book on them, but it's unclear whether they go dormant or have more of an annual cycle.
From my experience, they're quite particular - lots of light is a must, and too much shade just holds them back. The thing with these bulb ...

I'd consider participating in the survey, but I'm hesitant since it's not hosted directly on the University of Washington's website. The link provided is a third-party site, and I'm not comfortable with that. I don't know what the link actually leads to, despite the text claiming it's the survey.

Re: Can plants thrive in fine sand?
My thoughts on sand as a planting medium...
While fine sand can work for plants, I'm more inclined to think that roots have an easier time in slightly coarser sand or even gravel. The increased permeability of coarse sand also helps prevent anaerobic pockets from forming.
Just a gentle reminder ...
