River rocks are a solid choice. I've used them in my tanks for years without issues. Just give 'em a good scrub and vinegar test, and you should be golden.

Apple cider vinegar should work, but like Lynxor said, it's not as strong. I'd let it sit longer to be safe. My 55 gallon has lava rocks I tested with white vinegar, and they've been fine for years.

I've never tried it for a 3D background, but I'm thinking of giving it a go, now that I've got my DIY rock plans sorted. Has anyone else attempted this, or is it just me getting a bit too excited about the possibilities?

The Tursio rocks are awesome. What's their diet like?

I think it would be cool if all my rocks are similar, so it looks like a natural part of the environment.

I'd say redecorate is probably the way to go. What fish would you consider adding to your tank, mate?
