I've had some good luck with BucePlant, they're actually an Aquarium Plants Factory, so you can get some pretty unique stuff from them.

Try giving the male frozen or live foods, see if that encourages him to build a bubble nest.

TC plants are basically plants grown in a super clean environment, so you don't gotta worry about any pests, algae, or diseases. They're usually in a cup, and you get a decent amount of plant.

Attach it to hardscapes, I use super glue gel or fishing line, seems to work pretty well for me.

You can let the sprout continue to grow above the water.

It's normal for Crypts to melt in a new setup, they'll send out new growth over time though.
