They might crossbreed with pulchers.

Re: keeping kribensis and a cockatoo cichlid together

I'd be cautious with a 180L tank, to be honest. 220L is the minimum I'd consider for keeping Kribs. They need space to establish their territory, especially when breeding. It's not just about the volume, but the footprint. I learned the hard way with a 45G tank - a pair of Kribs and a pair of rams ...

Re: experience with malawi salts?

I've never actually tried them myself, but I've been curious about Seachem Lake Malawi salts too. From what I know, the Rift lakes do have a natural salt content. I've heard from other keepers that using these salts along with micro minerals can really bring out the colors in the fish.

Re: I stumbled upon a hidden gem on google

Cichlids have an incredible history, they originated as marine fish and were trapped in massive lakes millions of years ago when the ocean levels dropped. Over time, these saltwater lakes transformed into freshwater lakes, but due to their origins, cichlids still require a high pH. That's why many ...

Re: I stumbled upon a hidden gem on google

The good thing about cichlids is they breed in captivity so the lake's probably still the same.

Just saw these incredible photos from a dive in lake Tanganyika. Someone's got serious skills. So, so cool.

Re: Maintaining a healthy aquarium environment

Honestly, rescaping weekly seems like a lot to me.

I do a water change, about 5-10 gallons, and really stir up the tank, trying to get as much debris as possible with my gravel vacuum. I then refill the tank with water from the garden hose, since it's conveniently located next to the window, and ...

Re: Does kribs spawn sound familiar to you?

Lights off, people. Fish need sleep too. I'm not sure why you're stressing them out with endless days - and wrapping the tank in black fabric? That's just a fire waiting to happen. The more you mess with the tank, the more likely you'll spook the kribs into eating their eggs. If the female's been ...

Re: Is a kribensis a male or female?

It can take as little as a month for kribs to spawn, but honestly, it's anyone's guess - it really depends on the tank setup and how often you're messing with the decor and the frequency of feeding and cleaning.
