Re: discus breeding tank dividers

Yep, solid dividers cut the weird vibe. My Discus are way less stressed now. I've got a 60 gallon with a HOB filter, temp at 82°F, and pH 6.6. Feeding them frozen bloodworms twice a day. Let us know how it works out.

Re: discus breeding tank dividers

Mesh dividers can work, but it's sketchy if the fish can still see each other. I tried it in my 55 gallon, and the males kept flaring. Ended up removing it after a week. My water's similar, 83°F, pH 6.4, with a sponge filter and driftwood. Maybe try solid dividers if you're gonna keep 'em split long ...

Re: discus tank water change myths

Beef heart's just gunkier. I do 50% after feeding it in my 50g, but that's 'cause the water clouds. Regular flakes? 30% weekly's fine. Depends on your filter's hustle, really.

Re: why is discus tank ph dropping?

What's your water change schedule like? If you're doing big changes with pure RO, the pH's gonna swing hard. Try smaller, more frequent changes, like 20% every other day. And yeah, buffer that water. Discus ain't fans of rollercoaster pH.

Re: why my discus has white poop?

Bare bottom tanks are easier, but if you've got sand, just vacuum it well during water changes. Also, what's your filter media? Old sponges can harbor bad stuff. Swap 'em out if they're past their prime.

Re: why my discus has white poop?

I've seen this before. It could be stress from recent tank changes. Did you add new fish or move decor around? Also, what's your lighting schedule? Too much light can stress them out. Mine chill better with dimmer lights.

For real. My FX6 was a pH killer till I rinsed the sponges weekly. How old's your media?

Re: setting up a discus breeding tank

I'm new to this, but why 84°F? Is that the ideal temp for breeding? My tank's at 82°F, and I've got a pair that's been hanging out together. Should I bump it up?

Re: Discus Fry laying at the bottom of tank

Updates...

Tried Epsom salt treatment, but still they're down, and more fries are affected.

Separated them, gave them a PP bath before, they're still eating but again laying down.

Anything else I can try to get them healthy?

Thanks,
Kenny

Re: Discus Fry laying at the bottom of tank

Thanks everyone for your input. I'll start doing heavy water changes daily, and I'll also add Epsom salt to the BBS as Cliff suggested. I'll update you on the status.

Thanks a lot for your suggestions, I really appreciate it.
