Re: Can these fish coexist peacefully?

I'd advise against the mandarin. I've had experience with a scooter blenny, which shares similar issues with mandarins, in my 120l reef tank. Despite the tank being well-established and feeding it frozen food, the blenny didn't thrive, lost weight rapidly, and eventually had to be rehomed to a ...

Re: compatibility issues

They should be alright. Clownfish can get a bit testy when spawning, might claim a spot and defend it, but generally they're not too fussed about the rest of the tank's inhabitants. I've got a purple firefish that swims with my clowns all the time and they just ignore him, but they do love nipping ...

Re: care and feeding of dwarf seahorses

There are two ways you can cycle your tank, either by using a canister filter and doing a fishless cycle, similar to what you'd do with a freshwater tank - just search the forum for more info on that. Or, you could opt for dried live rock or base rock instead, give it a good clean and soak it in RO ...

Re: care and feeding of the green chromis

I remember when we reduced feeding in our tank to sort a phosphate issue, they quickly started bullying each other.

Re: clarks shoes seem to fit my clowns

I've noticed with my own clowns that this sort of spasming can occur when one fish is near the other, and it's often the smaller one that's doing it. I've also seen this "shakey" behaviour in my Perc's, and in many other freshwater fish, it seems to be used as a display. With my clowns, it appears ...

Re: Is it worth the investment?

I dunno, man. My 55-gallon is a pain to clean, and the fish don't seem to care either way. Maybe I just suck at this hobby, but I kinda miss my old 20-gallon. Less hassle, y'know?

Re: Keeping a breeding pair of clownfish in a 15-gallon tank

I recently made the switch from an 8 gallon to a 15 gallon, and I'm really hoping to get my clownfish to breed. I've been thinking about trying a male and female pair in a live rock 15 gallon - do you think that's doable?

Honestly, I think this is a pretty ambitious plan. Clownfish aren't ...

Re: combining a sump skimmer and refugium

Not based on personal experience, but from what I've observed, most sumps with a refugium are compartmentalized. So, the water flow goes in, hits the skimmer first, then passes through dividers that remove bubbles, followed by the refugium, more dividers, and finally the return pump that sends the ...

Re: comparison of spotted and normal manderin

Thanks for sharing that link, I'd read about someone keeping multiple mandarins but couldn't recall who. From my research, it seems females can coexist, but males tend to be aggressive towards each other.
