Re: best discus tank cleaning tools
For deep cleaning, I'd recommend a UV sterilizer. It's not a tool per se, but it keeps the water crystal clear and reduces algae long-term. I run mine for 8 hours a day, and my discus tank has never looked better.

Re: why discus swim in circles?
Could be internal parasites. Metroplex in food fixed my group's weird swimming last year. Worth a shot if it persists.

Tannins are great, but watch the pH drop. I use almond leaves, but only a few at a time. Filter's got purigen to keep the water clear. Lighting's at 7 hours, with a siesta midday. Seems to reduce stress. What's your substrate depth? I keep sand at about 2 inches, easy to clean.

Re: discus tank water prep tips
Crushed coral's been a game changer for me. Keeps the KH around 4, pH at 6.8. I feed 3 times a day, mix of flakes, pellets, and frozen. Water changes are 50% every other day, but I've got a heavy bioload with 10 Discus in a 120 gallon. How many are you planning to keep in the 75?

Re: discus tank water prep tips
Prime's fine, but I prefer Safe for bulk dosing. RO water's good, but remember to buffer it. I use a mix of crushed coral in the filter to keep pH stable. For cycling, I'd recommend ghost feeding with pellets to simulate bioload. Once cycled, 50% changes every other day for juvies, then taper off as ...

Re: New Tank Set-up
I've got a 55-gallon tank, and the filter is a Fluval Power Filter, 200 GPH. Lunar, I suspected the undergravel filter might not be ideal for discus, and I think I know why - it creates more hiding spots for waste. But could you clarify on the gravel comment? I'm actually ...

Re: New Tank Set-up
Thanks for your input lunar. My tank is still in the planning stages, but I'm looking at a 55 gallon. I've got a Fluval Power Filter that I'm planning to use with a combination of media, including a foam filter, activated carbon, and an ammonia insert. I was considering adding a ...

New Tank Set-up
I've got a Fluval Power Filter that'll hold a foam filter, activated carbon, and an ammonia insert. I'm also considering adding a biomax insert, but I need to check if there's space for another media. I've seen these column-like filters that go inside the tank - they're about two inches in diameter ...
