keeping eels and bichirs with cichlids

I've been feeling nostalgic for my old eels - I used to keep a tiretrack and a fire eel. But since I don't have an aggressive tank setup anymore, I haven't had the opportunity to keep eels for a while now.
While browsing aquarium pictures online at work, I stumbled upon a few tanks that caught my attention - they appeared to be African cichlid tanks with eels in them. This got me thinking - could this be a viable option for my 137g Malawi tank? I've got a relatively peaceful community in there, with Malawi Butterflies, Demasoni, Redfin Borleyi, Acei, Yellow Labs, and Synodontis Polli catfish. They all coexist pretty well, so I'm wondering if I could introduce either a fire eel or a tiretrack eel to the mix.
I also have a couple of 8-10" Senegal bichirs in my water garden that I'd love to relocate to the cichlid tank. I'd appreciate any advice or feedback on this idea - is it a good idea, or should I reconsider?
