Who Gives A Fish Forums

I've got two groups of discus - one actual pair and another trio that breeds together. They all seem to devour their eggs within 12-24 hours. Not trying to breed them, just curious if I'm inadvertently causing them to eat their eggs. Is this typical behavior for discus?

Just my two cents here.
It seems they're healthy and comfortable enough to spawn, which is a good sign, but I think even with male/female pairs, they might be too young or perhaps don't consider their environment suitable for rearing young.

Thanks Steve, that's a good point about age. I've been thinking the environment is pretty great, to be honest. I've actually been moving towards a more minimalist setup lately - got rid of a rock and a couple of large driftwood pieces to give them more room to swim.

They could be too young, but honestly, some just never seem to figure it out. I had one that never got it right, and it's actually why I named it EESOB - it's a long story, but it fit the fish's situation perfectly.

A new pair's formed and laid eggs on a leaf and the glass - others swooped in and ate them. Still, I'd love a successful spawn, not that it's my goal with discus keeping, but I think it shows a healthy group - now all but two are spawning in some way.
